Pain, Tears, and Happiness

7 February 2009 No Comment

Last weekend was an eventful one for Abby. She lost, not one, but both front teeth. The first tooth came out on Friday. It had been loose for awhile, and she was ready to get it pulled. Well, when she woke up the next morning, the other tooth was loose. And, it got more and more loose throughout the day. By the end of the day, it was hanging on one side… The problem though was that it was more deeply rooted on the other side. It didn’t matter… Abby wanted it out now. She wanted it out before bed, and my husband was happy to oblige.

My husband, of course, enjoys the duty of pulling out the kids’ teeth. What is it with dads and pulling teeth? I don’t understand it because the whole thing kind of stresses me out… the wiggling, the pulling, the pain, the tears. Just let the tooth fall out on it’s own! But, for kids, it’s a different story. The wiggling, pulling, pain, and tears are all worth it just for the tooth fairy’s visit. Don’t get me wrong. The tooth fairy is pretty generous around here, and I understand the excitement. But, it’s not like they’re on a deadline to cash in their teeth. No persuading a determined child in our family… Abby was ready.

Abby’s instructions: “Daddy, don’t wiggle it like that because it hurts.”

Tender moment between her and her daddy.

There was more wiggling, pain, and tender moments, then crying, which is unusual for Abby. She’s a pretty tough cookie, but this sucker was stuck. It got to the point where it hurt with any slight movement. But, she wanted to keep trying.

More wiggling…

More pain…

Stop the madness! I couldn’t take it anymore. I made the executive decision to make them wait until the morning. I don’t know why, but this didn’t make Abby happy.

And, what do you think was the first thing she wanted to do when she woke up?? Yep! Here she is with her missing teeth.

Isn’t she cute?!
