Black Eye: What NOT To Do
About a month ago, our oldest got into a sledding accident that resulted in a black eye and not so fun concussion. It was somewhat of a scary situation, but after a check-up at the emergency room, he ended up being okay. I’m just so thankful that none of the bones in his eye socket were broken.
After his accident, his eye was slightly swollen. He was in a lot of pain and trying to be tough, but understandably, shed some tears, which led to sniffles. When you (or your child) has a severe blow to the eye (enough to cause any type of swelling), do NOT blow your nose. Blowing your nose will cause more inflammation, and I read on one site that it could even cause the face to swell. I’m glad I found this information on the internet before he blew his nose a second time, but just one time caused his eye to puff up significantly more. The picture shown doesn’t show the full extent of the swelling.
Hopefully, you’ll never have to use this information, but I felt the need to spread the word. Sure wish I would have known!
